CDM in the Media

CDM joined our allies in public health care reform at the Council of the Federation this week in Victoria, BC. As you may know, the federal government announced in December that it would be cutting a cheque to provinces, and withdrawing from discussions about health care. Our message to the First Ministers was that we need them to urge the federal government back to the table on health care. We believe that health care is about more than dollars and cents, and we are missing an opportunity to transform our country's health care system by backing away from a Health Accord in 2014.

We had a busy week in the media, getting our message out across the country. Here's a round up of our coverage in local and national news:

CBC Radio - Radio West, Kelowna - COMING SOON

Live Interview with CMD board member, Dr. Vanessa Brcic

CTV National Affairs

Vanessa takes on Brian Day, president of the Cambie Clinic in Vancouver.

Clip 1 - A health plan with Ottawa

Clip 2 - Health care efficiency

The Vancouver Observer - January 16, 2012

David P. Ball

"Premiers united in opposition to Conservatives' 'unilateral' health care decision"

We have also been active in advocating for a national pharmacare strategy. A recent report shows that 1 in 10 Canadians have affordability issues with their prescription drugs - and that number rises to 1 in 4 if you don't have drug insurance.

The Globe and Mail - January 16, 2012

Andre Picard

"Many struggle to pay for prescriptions"

CTVNews.ca - January 16, 2012

Angela Mulholland

"One in 10 Canadian cannot afford prescription meds"
