Terry Wuerz, Internal Medicine Resident, Dalhousie University
Terry completed medical school at the University of Manitoba in 2007. Since that time, he has worked as a Resident in Internal Medicine at Dalhousie University. He has also played a role in the development of the Saint John, New Brunswick based Internal Medicine Residency Program.Often, our current system of health services delivery has come under pressure for being stretched too thin. Yet if pressed for their true values, the majority of Canadians agree that the diagnosis is clear: Canada's Medicare system provides patients with equitable access to excellent and cost-effective medical care. It is true that physicians, policy-makers and patients alike know we must work to address challenges, such as long wait lists. The cure, however, lies in innovative approaches that preserve and build on the strengths of Medicare, not in the erosion of our world-renowned system.
Terry joined Canadian Doctors for Medicare in order to work towards some of these innovative solutions, while at the same time demonstrating that there is an underlying strength to our current system that would be permanently undermined by privatization.
