2010 Board of Directors Elections: Election Results (All Regions)

 

December 10, 2010

The deadline for nominations was December 6, 2010. Nominations were received for each of the four regions. Voting was to be held from December 10, 2010, until December 15, 2010. Voting will not be held as all the candidates have been acclaimed. The election results are given below.

NOTICE OF NOMINATIONS

Canadian Doctors for Medicare is looking for committed members to serve on the Board of Directors. Members in good-standing are asked to nominate candidates no later than December 6, 2010.

Vacant Positions

  • One (1) Representative from Ontario
  • One (1) Representative from the Atlantic Region (New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia)
  • One (1) Representative from the Central Region (Saskatchewan and Manitoba)
  • One (1) Representative from the Western Region (Alberta and British Columbia)
  • One (1) Medical Student Director (from anywhere in Canada)
  • One (1) Medical Resident Director (from anywhere in Canada)

Regional Nominations

A member in good-standing (membership fees paid in full), may nominate:

  • One (1) physician to serve as a Representative (from your region)
  • One (1) Medical Resident Director (from anywhere in Canada)
  • One (1) Medical Student Director (from anywhere in Canada)

Election Process

Voting for the Regional Representative will take place from 8:00 AM on December 10, 2010, until 8:00 PM on December 15, 2010. (All times Eastern Standard.) Voting will be done electronically. Proxy voting is not permitted. Voting will be confidential. Further information about the voting procedures will be sent to eligible voters (members in good-standing) before the election.

The Medical Resident Director and the Medical Student Director will be elected from the eligible nominees by the new Board of Directors on a date to be determined in January 2011.

Required Materials

All nominees must send a Statement of Intent no longer than 250 words explaining the reason they are seeking election and a Curriculum Vitae that shall not exceed three pages which includes their name, address, and the best method of contact.

Eligibility to Nominate and Vote for Board Members

Practising and retired physician, medical resident, and medical student members are eligible to nominate and vote for representatives in the regions in which they reside, provided they are in good standing with CDM (all required membership fees are paid). Members may nominate themselves.

Terms of Office

The term of office for the Regional Representative will be three years. The Medical Student Director and the Medical Resident Director will serve for two years.

Term Limits

Board members are not prohibited from running for re-election.

Removal from the Board of Directors

Members of the Board of Directors may be removed by a two-thirds vote of the Board on the grounds that their views or behaviour are fundamentally opposed to CDM-MCRP’s interests and vision.

Election Dates and Results

Voting for the Regional Representative will take place from 8:00 AM on December 10, 2010, until 8:00 PM on December 15, 2010. (All times Eastern Standard.)

Election results for Regional Representatives will be announced on December 17, 2010.

Election results for the Medical Resident Director and the Medical Student Director will be announced on a date to be determined in January 2011.

The first meeting of the new Board of Directors will be held in January 2011.
